ParvoVirus
Signs of Parvo:
1: Lethargy - not as active
2: Anorexia - not hungry
3: Vomiting
4: Diarrhea
5: Dehydration
6: Fever
7: Death
Treatment of Parvo:
Parvo is a viral infection similar to the human influenza virus (flu). Therefore, as with all viruses, there is no medication
to kill the virus like there are for bacteria (antibiotics). The virus has to run its course in the body and be cleared by
the body.
Treatment consists of treating all the secondary problems that occure during the parvo virus infection:
1: Dehydration - IV fluids
2: Infections - Injectable antibiotics
3: Vomiting - Anitemetic (anti vomit) injections
4: Diarrhea - Anti-diarrheals
5: Pain - Injectable pain medications
6: Protein loss - Plasma transfusions
7: Nutrition - Bland diets
Prevention of Parvo
1: Vaccinations - Getting you puppies full set (3-4 vaccines) of vaccinations is the best prevention.
2: Minimize exposure - Do not take your puppy to any public area until fully vaccinated (usually by 4 - 5 months)
3: Keep your environment clean. Dirty yards attract flys and they can transmitt the virus. People, cats, wild animals can
track the virus into your environment.
